Bound by Destiny looks to continue winning ways in Blue Hen Stakes on Wednesday

Wilmington, Del., August 25, 2022 —Black Cloud Racing Stable’s Bound By Destiny will be looking to run her unbeaten streak to three when she faces ten rivals in the $50,000 Blue Hen Stakes at Delaware Park on Wednesday, August 31.

The five and a half furlong event for 2-year-old fillies is a prep for the six furlong $100,000 Small Wonder Stakes slated for September 28.  Both races are part of the Delaware Certified or Bred Thoroughbred Program (DCTP) and are restricted to thoroughbreds who spent a minimum of 90 days on a Delaware Certified farm or training facility before December 31st of the yearling year.

In her first career outing, Bound by Destiny posted a 14-length triumph in a five furlong $25,000 maiden claiming race at Delaware Park on July 1.  The Kentucky-bred daughter of Lord Nelson trained by Anthony Pecoraro followed with a head victory in a five and a half furlong allowance at Delaware Park on August 10.

“She is super intelligent and tactical,” said trainer Anthony Pecoraro.  “She has been quick to learn and she is one of the smartest horses I have been around.  We thought she was going to run well her first time out, but we were not expecting such a dominating performance.  We were even more impressed with her second start with the way she won by being tactical.  She beat some nice horses and she did it stalking.  We are very excited about her and we are hoping she will continue to move forward in the Blue Hen.”

Five his eight victories at the meet thus far have been with 2-year-olds.  The success Pecoraro has enjoyed with 2-year-olds has been by design.

“I just decided I wanted to switch my focus to training younger horses,” Pecoraro said.  “I like teaching and developing the younger horses and the Delaware Certified program makes it even more lucrative to focus on some of these horses.  I like to be patient with them and wait for them to tell me when they are ready run.  It is so much fun developing them into race horses.”

Trainer John Robb, who has three wins from 13 2-year-old starters at the meet, has entered three including Gene Gould Jr.’s Tappin Josie who lost by a head to Bound by Destiny in her most recent.  He has also entered No Guts No Glory Farm’s Cocktail Dreaming who recently ran fourth in $150,000 Keswick at Colonial Downs and Lucky 7 Stables’ Laramore who recently finished fifth to Bound by Destiny in a Delaware Park allowance.
