Delaware Horsemen's Assistance Fund

The Delaware Horsemen's Assistance Fund (DHAF) provides aid and assistance to grooms, hotwalkers, exercise riders, trainers, and other backstretch licensees in racing.

Assistance, subject to pre-approval and guidelines, can be provided on a routine basis and includes, but is not limited to the following:

Medical when not covered by employer's, employee's insurance or workers' compensation insurance.
Dental, hearing and eye care
Alcohol, drug, gambling and family counseling referrals.

Applications are available in the DHAF Office and must be approved before treatment is received.

Employee Assistance

Program

Wellness Clinic

The Backstretch Wellness Clinic is open to all currently licensed Delaware Park horsemen, their employees and dependents. The clinic provides diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries. it also offers a preventive program of immunizations, screenings and various health education and wellness services.

Day Care Assistance

This is a financial assistance program, funded by the DHAF to assist with day care expenses of eligible parents working on the backstretch at Delaware Park. Substantial reimbursement of day care expenses at licensed day care facilities chosen by the parents is provided.

Backstretch Social Services

A variety of services are provided to backstretch employees; laundry facilities, day trips, BBQ's, Day room, Church services, etc.

English and Spanish Classes

The Delaware Horsemen's Assistance Fund sponsors an "English as a second language" program to provide an opportunity for all Spanish speaking backstretch workers at Delaware Park to learn English. The classes are held weekly.

Backstretch Employee Assistance Program

Individual and group substance abuse and family counseling sessions are available on-site. Please call the counselor for additional information at (302) 383-7233 or (302) 994-2521 ext. 6532. The counselor is located in the Horsemen's Office.

Chapel Services

Christian fellowship and worship services in English and Spanish are held weekly.
